Hey Miroslav, you're buying into this stage managed stroll... Eglinton is the border for many wards so I could knock on an apartment on one side of the street then knock on a house on the other to say I canvassed in 2 wards and make the media take images... Heck with 3 days(over 36 hours) I could knock on doors in all 44 wards. Of course I would be discovering more about Toronto with transit.(smile)

Miroslav: I seriously like the last part of your comment.

Hey Miroslav, don't take the deflection too seriously. Candidates make a choice where they allocated their time and resources... like Smitherman's early exits from many fora. One has to be concerned about the relationship between religion and politics. I am Christian and will be going to an event this afternoon in Markham to discuss "Civic Engagement" with a predominately Asian audience and whomever else might be in the mall. And in the evening I will be dancing the Twist at Yonge & Dundas on my day of worship...

Miroslav:I work on Sundays, I respect that people have different views and religions, just don't force your religion on others. No single religion should force their views/ways on the rest of society. I went to Catholic highschool but I am against it. In an ideal world we would have a school board for all other religions, but then that would mean separating people based on their religions. If I had the powers right now, I would merge all school boards into one. No one is stopping you from practicing your religion. In fact one of my best highschool memories was that World Religions course where we went to a temple, mosque, synagogue and other places of worship from different religions. In fact I have been invited by friends throughout the years to attend their worships.
Some places have for example ask you to take off your shoes, some have women in a separate section, others have their day on saturday, some on friday and so forth. It is great that we have such multicultural/multireligious city. I will continue going to different worship events. They do it different than my own religion. I will continue to go to different cultural festivals. I view both types of events as a way to learn about different people in our city. It's awesome.

Hi Miroslav. I was wondering if your statement of 'not endorsing a candidate' means you will not vote?

Miroslav: I am an activist. I have been helpping my community and others in Toronto for 15 years. I started in highschool. I am willing to work with any candidate that becomes Mayor. Some candidates are better than others. We even have a racist (he clearly says he is a racist not a nazi - ask Jonathan Goldsbie (@goldsbie)). I am there usually one of the first people to vote. I have voted in every Municipal election since 1998, every Ontario provincial and federal election since 1998. I even helped out some of the campaigns and in three by-elections. It is quite fun and you get to see another side of democracy. If I post here: "I am endorsing xyz" then I feel that I am sort of doing a disservice. I have talked to most candidates, I have no problem criticizing any of their platforms. I give them suggestions. People should be going up to the candidates (not just the media5) and getting their points across.

I will be voting on October 25. If I have to crawl on my stomach to go to the gym/church/whatever location. I want that 60% of eligible voters not to vote to actually go vote.

I agree its important that the candidates go to as many debates as possible. From what I can tell Rossi is teh busiest candidate so its a surprise he didn't make it maybe next time?

Miroslav:I seen Sarah Thomson go to a lot of events as well. I haven't counted based on photos/tweets but if Rossi was the busiest candidate, it wouldn't surprise me. He is doing a good job. He just wasn't at this debate. Why do people have to cry like babies because I mentioned that?

I am very disappointed that the debate was scheduled on the Sabbath on the most important day of the week for many of us who are part of the community and unable to attend due to that reason..it may not have been intended but very little thought must have put into considering the surrounding community and to see Rossi being bashed for being a respectful human being is quite disgusting if you ask me. Caribana happens ONCE a year meaning..the many individuals that are from the area in which the debate is taking place..are AT Caribana and were at Caribana partying WITH Rossi. As for us the other large part of the community..we were doing what is done every Friday for way longer than I can even remember. Truly disrespectful to sit here and bash Rossi for not attending a debate at which the majority of the community could not even attend for either of the two reasons I noted above.

Toronto is a diverse community and this debate itself was planned in poor judgement and lacked the consideration that was needed especially on a Friday night Sabbath during Caribana weekend.. in a neighborhood of predominantly religious Jewish families and another large part of the community at the one celebration Toronto has each year - so unfair and so unthoughtful.

It is not up to the candidates but its up to the organizers to know better and if its clear that they do not know better than its not up to you to sit here and judge someone like Rossi who does know better.

Miroslav: All I said was that Rocco Rossi was not there and now you are accusing me of bashing? Why is it that Rossi's campaign can't handle criticism and have to twist everything around like you just did?

Lawrence Heights is made up of many communities, now just the Jewish community. One community shouldn't dictate to others.

By the way Howard Moscoe (he is Jewish by the way) was there, I even talked to him. Three Discovering Toronto With Transit staff members who live in the are were also there, guess what they are?

I simply stated that Rocco was not at the debate and was partying at the Caribana event. I would find it insulting if the Lawrence Heights debate was held on a Saturday or Sunday (one is a family day, the other is a holly day for Roman Catholics).

If you are going to throw a fit every time I mention Rocco being MIA then you will most likely suffer a heart attack.

Jeriko, Natasha, me and the rest of Discovering Toronto With Transit editors, writers and rest of staff will mention every time ANY "media5" candidate is not at a Mayoral debate. About 20% of our staff are Jewish. If they want to take Sabbath off then they can do it. If they want to work during Sabbath then it is up to them. I don't force any of my staff to work during their religious holidays/important days. There were at least 5 Jewish members of the community at the debate including Howard.

Hey Miroslav, you may want to let your readers know about this poll of 1 vs 1 or the majors option on the right side.
http://www.newstalk1010.com/

Achampong, Brereton & Pampena also debated Ford, Smitherman & Thomson at the Canadian Black Caucus Debate in June...

I was amused that Achampong was able to rise from 8th place to 2nd when Natasa announced you guys were closing at 1025 votes and eventually 1355, the rise was one of those interesting statistics.

Miroslav: Apparently you don't follow me on twitter, I am seriously pissed at Smitherman's request to have a debate with JUST Ford. We have a nick name for him: George the Destroyer of Democracy.
By the time I was aware of the CBCD, it was after the debate.
1025 = The 25th. day of the 10th. month is when you go vote.
The poll was opened for a month at the end, people don't truly care right now about the campaign, it's summer. People will start caring a month before election day. That's also the rough day when signs will start being placed at our yards/windows/fences/etc...

Dear Miroslav; I think you should release them along with the 5 candidates that rated high on the EMD. I followed the unscientific poll since late June. Another poster has indicated a concern that only caucasian candidates were televised in the previous 3 at CP24. I think that 4 more reports are not out of the realm of impossibility or even another 28 given online search engines.
Bon Appetit!

Miroslav:I don't think Charlene Cottle and Sonny Yeung have twitter. There is going to be a report card after the EMD on our 5 candidates. There is a mayoral debate tonight (most likely the media5 are going to be there). I am attending and leaving in about 30 minutes, I will start publishing the report cards of the media5 when I come back. Will be doing one final review of the post then it will be published at 9am tomorrow.

I want to personally congratulate the winners they all have great ideas on improving our great city of Toronto.

There are many ways to run for office and the most important is exposure.

As one professor from the Rotman School of Management said it’s all about exposure and telling voters what you want to do to make Toronto a better city.

The big five candidates that the media wants to hear from, are good at raising funds for their election and they give a lot of speeches that means more media coverage.

The big five have lots of money for trinkets and handouts and fancy election signs and some are even biodegradable.

What are they really offering, Rossi wants to paint a line in the sand as in no bike lanes and Smitherman wants to throw kids into Lake Ontario and teach them to swim and at least they can hang onto the dead fish floating by and look at Ford just wants to cut back to the stone age and Thomson has experience in turning money losing companies into profitable ones and all she is talking about is the TTC and Pantalone just wants to keep it the way it is.

I feel that this will be a unique election just because there is no real frontrunner and voters will be searching the Internet and the airwaves to see what is being offering.

Again congratulations

Tibor Steinberger

Hey Miroslav, we met before. There are now 34 mayoral candidates and is trending to over 40 by EDay. In the last open race; Miller won with 43.2% of the votes accepted. Back then the voter turnout was around 33% Tomorrow is the only mayoral debate in July...good luck to the School Trustee candidates to get attention until the fall. At least the councillors are having BBQs and movie nights. Cheers, Sonny

Miroslav: Some candidates are holding tea parties, some held a beer party.
Just because I attend them doesn't mean I will vote for them. I just like to be informed.

One candidate from Ward 42 (not incumbent) held his opening in his garage and backyard. Cake, chips, cheese, and something that was delicious but didn't know what it was.

You don't have to throw a big expensive party. Heck if you order pizza and wings I'd be happy.

All these events have one thing in common: Candidate talks to Torontonians. Good Luck
